File Preparation

Artwork can be sent to us as an electronic file. Quark Express, Adobe Suite InDesign, Illustrator,  and Photoshop. We do carry the latest versions to be compatible with your files.

We are more than happy to assist with file preparation to make work print ready. Here is a checklist that may assist you in file preparation:

  1. Include all supporting links  and fonts that pertain to your file.
  2. make sure your file has the correct colors that you want printed or please indicate them in an email or hard copy sample. If you are using four color process make sure that all photos and logos are converted accordingly for best file conversion.
  3. The most frequesntly asked question is "What file resolution should I send?". 300 DPI (dots per inch) photo files  are recommended. Images off the web are very low resolution files and do not print very clearly. Please try to avoid those files.
  4. When sending newsletters or programs that consist of a number of pages please note that sending them in printer spreads is a great help (but not necessary). Seattle PrintWorks can prepare this file for printing and get you a hard copy proof for your printing approval.
  5. If your project consists of bleeding images or text off the edge of the page please provide 1/8" bleed to be trimmed. When you design a certain page size please add 1/8" for bleed outside your page dimensions
  6. Please include a PDF or hard copy with your project to ensure that the file matches your design.

Feel free to contact us before sending your files to discuss any troubleshooting factors or to let us know that you need assistance with your project output.

ftp instructions

Please click on the link below to upload files. This will take you to our FTP service, SendThisFile.com. It’ll be like sending a regular email with the ability to upload large files. We have the capability to handle up to 150mgs. If your project exceeds this size please provide a CD along with hard copy.

When sending please ZIP or STUFF your project folder to prevent any file corruption that may occur during file transfer over the internet. Our FTP service only allows you to send one file at a time. If you need more clarification about this process please contact the electronic prepress department.

Some browsers won’t show you a status bar but will notify you that your file has been uploaded SUCCESSFULLY. Our service will send us an email to let us know that your project folder is ready for download. If you already haven’t included a PDF file in your packaged folder then please send one to our company email address.
